Job Description:
NCSA is currently seeking a Data Analyst that will support the activities and projects of the NCSA Industry Program in the area of high-performance data informatics, data analytics and big data. The successful candidate will turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions. The analyst will work with the NCSA Industry Partners and scientific community on a wide variety of applications to analyze their data using state of the art data analytic tools with a focus on using distributed data computing environments and provide them with whatever training is needed on using these tools.

Key responsibilities:

-Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports. This applies to all multi-disciplinary kinds of data produced by or used by partners of the NCSA industry.

-Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

-Work with the system admin of the NCSA Industry cluster (iForge) to install Hadoop-Spark related system on iForge, to benchmark the system, and to produce tutorials and user guides for users.

-Contribute to discovering new analytics tools and state-of-art analytic architectures for iForge cluster.

-Utilize the advanced features of R multi-node and multi-core optimization as required by industrial and scientific applications.

-Work with GA packages in R to optimize the project for dynamic sampling design.

-Explore and advance the use of parallel processing as it related to R language for scientific users with iForge.

-Provide consulting to the new data analytics clusters, which is currently building at NCSA Industry.

-Organize and lead workshops on the use of in-memory data analytics applications on iForge.

-Identify and promote new directions for high performance computing (HPC) in the context of industry applications.

-Present knowledge of large scale data and analytics at technical meetings to the clients, and be able to demonstrate the advantage of the NCSA Industry team.

-Provide industrial users with tech support including problem solving and troubleshooting, workflow design and optimization, and training on using data analytic tools.

Required Education and experience:

-Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.

-Minimum of 1 year experience in HPC related application development.

-Experience with using and installing software packages on supercomputer.

-Strong working knowledge of Bash, Java, Python, Scala.

-Experience with Ambari, Hadoop HDFS & YARN, Spark, R.

-Experience working with industry and scientific users on parallel platforms.

Preferred Experience:

-Knowledge of other bioinformatics tools such as ADAM.

-Experience with optimization on parallel platforms with R and other languages.

-Experience with managing the job submission on supercomputers.

-Project management experience and supervisory experience of students in an academic environment.
