The Influenza Division at the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) is one of five Collaborating Centers for Surveillance, Epidemiology and Control of Influenza of the World Health Organization (WHO). The Influenza Division is seeking a researcher/scientist supporting the mission of the Vaccine Preparedness Team, which is responsible for the generation of vaccines to protect the public from emerging/pandemic viruses. We are currently seeking a Data Analyst. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing and improving surveillance systems to detect and differentiate influenza and other pathogen outbreaks and report on the data and results to CDC. The candidate will assist in research and development efforts to eliminate gaps in influenza knowledge by monitoring influenza viruses in animal and human populations through molecular technologies, by conducting traditional surveillance strategies and incorporating laboratory surveillance data with classic epidemiology data to facilitate detection of new epidemic variants and provide complete and accurate information about influenza viruses posing a pandemic threat. This effort will fully integrate mathematical and computational approaches with laboratory-based science, hard data, and prediction testing, to understand, and eventually predict, the evolutionary and epidemiological patterns of Influenza, an antigenically variable pathogen. This information will provide public health leadership with information on current and emerging immunization practices and will be used to formulate future vaccine constituent production. The position is located in the Influenza Division (ID) of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Office of Infectious Disease (OID). Relocation support is not available for this position.
