Job Description:
The Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit (PNGU) in the MGH Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM) on the MGH Main Campus (Boston) has an immediate opening for a data analyst with expertise/interests in the genetic and environmental determinants of depression. The position will be based in the Dunn Lab (www.thedunnlab.com) and is supported through grants aimed at understanding: (1) the developmental effects of genetic variation on executive functioning and risk for depression; and (2) and analyses of innovative biomarkers of neuropsychiatric disease. The position will involve working with genetic and phenotypic data from longitudinal studies to perform genome wide association analyses (GWAS), gene-based/pathway analyses, and gene-by-environment interaction analyses. Analysts will also work with microarray data and will use publicly available bioinformatics resources to interpret genetic results. Successful applicants will have a strong research background with 2-5 years of data analysis experience and knowledge of R, Unix, and genomic data analysis pipelines. Candidates must have a MA degree or higher in a related field (e.g., statistical genetics; bioinformatics; genetic epidemiology) with an ability to conceptualize and conduct complex analyses, proven ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative environment, fluency with all modes of communication in English, and strong writing skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complex data acquisition, storage, cleaning, and pre-processing
  • Performs advanced quantitative statistical analysis methods
  • Dissemination of results via conferences and journal publication
  • Acts as a statistical subject matter expert and resource for numerous projects

Qualifications:

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis approaches (e.g., linear and logistic regression; longitudinal analyses)
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics data analysis pipelines to implement research projects
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative and supportive environment
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in response to changing deadlines and the needs of the lab
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent quantitative and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work well in collaborative environment
  • Ability to perform complex statistics or biostatistics, data mining, database management, and computer programming (e.g., SAS, R, Unix).
  • Ability to perform genetic analysis
EDUCATION:

MA degree required in related field (e.g., genetics, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, computational biology, and/or genetic epidemiology)

EXPERIENCE:

2-5 years of experience in managing complex data required.
