Data Manager, Bioinformatics Programmer IIIUCSFMedicine / Hematology / OncologySan Francisco, CA USA JOB OVERVIEW
The Data Manager will be responsible for managing SAS databases and performing complex statistical analyses for prostate cancer research studies at the UCSF. This position requires proficiency with the SAS programming language to create, document, validate, process, and maintain statistical programs that generate analysis datasets with high quality. The Data Manager will be responsible for ensuring secure and timely processing of electronic data submissions from research sites, establishing quality assurance procedures, and providing technical assistance to research collaborators. This position will also be responsible for interpreting study data, developing tables, graphs, preparing data sets for statistical analysis, and contributing to analyses for reports and publications under the direction of the PI and Lead Statistician. The Data Manager will also present study progress and results on national web conferences and face-to-face meetings and must have the ability to communicate in the areas of statistical analysis and evaluation methodology with research collaborators at all levels of expertise. Occasional travel will be required.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer / Computational / Data Science with computer / computational / data specialization or equivalent experience
• Expertise with MS Excel, MS Access, SQL/Visual Basic, and SAS, STATA, and R programming languages
• Thorough experience with generalized linear models, sample size calculations, hypothesis testing, parameter estimation, sensitivity and specificity analysis, and inter-rater agreement
• Experience preparing tables, charts, and graphs of study data for use in publications and presentations
• Knowledge in the areas of epidemiology and intervention study design
• Previous applied knowledge of clinical research regulations, including IRB, HIPAA, and data security policies and procedures
• Data management experience with large multi-site studies
• Previous experience in an academic research unit interfacing with research teams and faculty
• Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a wide range of team members, including senior level investigators, statisticians, programmers, and colleagues at partnering universities and health care settings
• Demonstrated ability to provide clear instructions and technical assistance to research collaborators both verbally and in writing
• Proven ability to successfully work on multiple concurrent projects
• Proven ability to take initial direction from others and complete work independently

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree, with specific coursework in a mix of evaluation, research methods, and quantitative analysis
• Advanced experience using complex statistical analysis techniques (Generalized Estimating Equations, Multiple Imputation, Inverse Probability Weighting) to adjust for confounding, clustering and missing data
• Experience working independently to create research methodology and analysis plans for a variety of data sets for comparison and analysis that are not from uniform interventions or populations
