Job Description:
Bioinformatics IT in Sigma-Aldrich is currently seeking an Informatics Specialist at our headquarters located in St. Louis, MO. This role will work with our internal and external customers to develop algorithms, pipelines and applications utilizing computational, statistical and informatics skills. The individual will also participates in data mining, data analysis, process improvement and other bio/chemoinformatics projects to support R&D, production, marketing/sales and other groups. Serve as a project lead or co-champion on major development projects including direct customer interface and mentor other scientists or colleague in the organization.

Scope of responsibility :

Bring technology capabilities and tools into bioinformatics and enhance user experience for scientists and researchers to support global Sigma-Aldrich.

Your role:

  • Well versed in areas such as applied statistics, machine learning, data mining and general data structures & algorithms.
  • Work independently with internal and external customers to develop algorithms, pipelines, and applications utilizing data analysis in data mining, process improvement and other bio/chemo-informatics projects to support marketing decision and operation of e-business, research and development, production, marketing, sales and other groups.
  • Developing and planning required analytic projects in response to business needs. Executing analytical projects as an individual contributor. Developing new predictive/analytical modeling methods as required.
  • Proficiency with at least one programming language such as R or python, and advanced knowledge of Unix-like systems is must.
  • Have experience dealing with large-scale data set with intensive hand-on code development.
  • Experience with Hadoop framework (HDFS, MapReduce, Spark, Hbase, Hive) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills are required.
  • Highly motivated, creative and self-assertive starter. Proven written and verbal communication skills, and excellent team skills are a must.
  • 3 - 5+ years experiences in algorithm development and analyzing large-scale scientific data

Basic Qualifications

Education: MS degree in computer science or statistics.
