Job Description:
The Data Scientist Intern will be part of the R&D team that explores continuous glucose time-series data for open-ended discovery as well as targeted new model development for high-impact use-cases. This position will contribute to the development of analytics capabilities, while uncovering new ways to use data to better the lives of patients and improve diabetes outcomes.

Responsibilities:

-Develop algorithms and contribute to research in the area of advanced analytics on continuous glucose data Use techniques from supervised and unsupervised machine learning, statistical analysis and predictive modeling to build knowledge of glucose behavior

-Test algorithms on real data and in simulations

-Analyze data from clinical trials

Requirements:

-Must be working towards Master's OR PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

-Hands-on experience creating an algorithm based on data.

-A proven passion for generating insights from data

-Knowledge of statistical methods generally, and particularly in the areas of modeling

-Experience with programming, database tools, and data and signal processing

-Experience with programming languages such as R, Python, Matlab

-Familiarity with visualization software and techniques

-Capable of conducting independent research

-Excited by and motivated by hard technical challenges

-Results-driven, self-motivated, self-starter

-Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a proven ability to communicate technical information to a cross-functional audience.

-Candidates must either be local to San Diego County and/or willing and able to secure housing in the San Diego area (if offered this internship) at their own expense. This position will be on-site at our Corporate HDQ offices in Sorrento Valley.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience with machine learning algorithm development and validation of medical data

-Working towards advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in an analytical or technical field (e.g. bioinformatics, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, operations research)
