Essential Responsibilities:

The cell culture data scientist described here will lead a team that will design and implement a workflow for data analysis that will include relational databases and instrument interfaces analyze the data collected from cell culture experiments using modern machine learning techniques. It is critical that the candidate have both an extensive biological and a computer science background. The scientist will also lead cell culture media development projects to create experimental designs based on the goals of the project and timeline. This role is expected to lead projects, troubleshoot technical challenges, develop and apply new technologies and interact with customers. This position requires excellent interpersonal and presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to present effectively in client meetings and reports. The scientist will operate independently and in collaboration with project managers to plan and execute daily activities, troubleshoot technical challenges and apply innovative technology to improve efficiency. This person is expected to mentor the activities of junior team members and may have direct reports.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics or biological sciences, with Relevant work experience should meet the following threshold levels. 15+ years for MS or 10+ for PhD
  • Proven history of design and implementation of relational databases for biological data.
  • Experience in creating bioinformatics workflows.
  • 10+ years of experience programming in Python.
  • Experience with designing computer-scientific instrument interfaces.
  • Proven history of building collaborative teams of bench and computational scientists.
  • Experience biochemistry including FPLC, HPLC, recombinant protein expression.
  • Extensive cell culture experience; including CHO, and HEK, (other mammalian primary and insect cell culture are a plus)
  • Mammalian cell culture media design and optimization experience.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Experience with molecular biology and genetics.
  • Experience with microscopy and computational image analysis.
