Grade 7: £30,434 - £37,394 per annum
We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to work on three large-scale research projects in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences in the Botnar Research Centre, and the Structural Genomics Consortium, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine on Old Road Campus, University of Oxford. This will be a joint appointment and you will be employed 60% by NDORMS and 40% by NDM.
As Data Scientist, you will participate across projects and build and maintain the research informatics infrastructure. You will be responsible for the design, coding, implementation and maintenance of novel informatics software solutions relating to the bio– and cheminformatics requirements of NDORMS and the key projects. You will also work with other Data Scientists and Informaticians within the University to assist in the implementation of the LIMS platform and you will be responsible for the maintenance, backup and disaster recovery of the NDORMS informatics and LIMS databases.
You will have a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, cheminformatics, high-content screening, bioinformatics or related area and will have strong programming skills. You will possess an understanding of good graphical user interface design and functionality as well as a working knowledge of coding under Linux, Windows and OS/X. Experience of coding for mobile platforms as well as experience in the use of R for statistical analyses would be desirable.
This is a full time fixed-term appointment for 2 years.
