Job Description:
AncestryDNA is seeking a dynamic leader for a multi-disciplinary group of scientists. The Director of Bioinformatics will be leading a team of motivated, talented computational biologists, bioinformatics analysts, and bioinformatics engineers who develop and implement pipelines and compute resources that support research projects. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with scientists to define and implement algorithms and pipelines that ensure robust and reproducible analyses
  • Collaborate with scientists, software engineers, and product managers to transition algorithms into a production environment
  • Prioritize activities to align with strategic goals
  • Manage, plan, budget computing resources and infrastructure in a research environment
  • Guide, mentor and advise team of independent scientists
  • Develop and manage timelines for multiple teams
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Statistics, Computer Science (or related field)
  • Demonstrated excellence in implementing algorithms, genomic pipelines, and managing data in cloud-based computing environments and high-performance clusters
  • Experience managing & budgeting computing resources
  • Familiarity with population genetic methods and genomic pipelines a plus
  • Knowledge of relational, noSQL, or graph databases
  • At least three years experience managing scientific research programs, including mentoring scientists
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Track record of innovation and scientific rigor
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
