Job Description:
BioReference Laboratories is the fourth largest full service laboratory in the United States, primarily a clinical testing laboratory servicing physician offices with concentrations in the focused markets of esoteric testing, molecular diagnostics, anatomical pathology, women's health and correctional health care.

BioReference’s oncology lab, GenPath is one of the premier hematopathology laboratories in the country and its GenPath Women’s Health is a national presence in Women's Health testing. The genetics laboratory, GeneDx, is typically recognized as the leading laboratory for testing of rare genetic diseases; having been the first commercial laboratory to utilize next generation sequencing technologies to answer meaningful clinical questions in cardiology, neurology and ophthalmology, among other clinical areas. GeneDx has once again earned its leading position with XomeDx, whole exome sequencing test.

Position Description
BioReference is currently recruiting for a full-time Director of BioInformatics based out of its corporate headquarters in Elmwood Park, NJ.

This Director will lead a BioInformatics team of systems analysts and engineers to further develop BioReference’s market leading automation and analytical systems. The role will include close coordination and ongoing collaboration with divisional IT/Informatics teams and clinical laboratory personnel.

You should consider this position if you are a Director level manager in BioInformatics and passionate about working with Big Data, specifically genomic data. You should love to analyze systems and develop streamlined solutions to support laboratory operations. You must enjoy working hands-on with people to solve informatics challenges.

Responsibilities
1. Manage a team of developers, and engineers, and systems analysts developing a range of systems supporting molecular diagnosis across the genomics program at BioReference laboratories.
2. Lead cross-functional and cross-divisional efforts to consolidate, optimize and unify aspects of the workflow components and analysis capabilities, coordinate efforts between laboratory and informatics staff, and continually support adaptation to the lab’s ever-changing needs.
3. Lead cross-functional Discovery and Early Development teams to design and implement a roadmap of implementation and improvement to systems across divisions.
4. Oversee requirements gathering, development planning, process optimization, software development, and operational support of Informatics systems.
5. Act as change management driver for operational redesigns and business process engineering where appropriate.
6. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and / or presentations; present responsibly status of team efforts at scientific meetings; may deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals.
7. Comply with all applicable regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures; maintain proper and complete records.
8. Assume responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing staff.
9. Keep abreast of relevant literature and serves as resource in area of specialized expertise; develop and maintains outside visibility; participate in national/international biomedical informatics societies and councils.
10. Contribute to departmental administration; demonstrate fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of projects, technology, external collaborations, and travel.

1. MD or PhD with 5 years of experience in bioinformatics.
2. Strong knowledge genetics and genomics with mastery and ability to mentor others in bioinformatics fundamentals.
3. Expert knowledge in bioinformatics, computational analyses of sequence data, genetics/genomics and quality control/quality assurance analyses.
4. Experience overseeing the software side of HPPC and data management.
5. Previous coding experience-scripting and OO languages such as .NET, C++, Python, Perl, Javascript, JAVA, Ruby, Shell, etc.
6. Laboratory bioinformatics experience preferred.
