DuPont Industrial Biosciences is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist with a focus on Data Analytics. 

Industrial Biosciences is an industry leader in providing biobased solutions to meet the needs of a growing population while protecting our environment. We create enzymes and other biobased inventions used by manufacturers to increase the productivity and environmental benefits of nearly 400 consumer and commercial products, such as foods, beverages, animal nutrition, textiles, household cleaning and fuel for vehicles.   We have major US research locations in Wilmington, Delaware and Palo Alto, California, and the location of this position is flexible with respect to existing research sites.

The successful candidate will be part of multidisciplinary teams within a large community of computational biologists, molecular biologists, microbiologists, biochemists and biochemical engineers. This scientist will be responsible for bringing Machine Learning and advanced Data Analytics methods to bear on large and complex datasets that are generated through collaborative research projects.  These projects may include protein engineering of enzymes, metabolic engineering of microbes and discovery of novel microbial consortia to benefit animal and human health.  Candidates should be self-motivated, thriving in a research team environment, and committed to using biotechnology for commercial and societal impact.

Job Qualifications

This position is open to candidates with a Ph.D. and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field.  Experience with Biological data and systems, particularly bacteria, yeast or fungi is welcome. Preference will be given to candidates with a broad knowledge base who have demonstrated productivity in areas such as:

Statistical Data Mining of large Biological datasets Mathematical/Statistical modeling of metabolic processes Use of statistical methods to integrate diverse -omics data and discover novel associations

Qualifications

Ph.D. and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training in Statistics, Bioinformatics or related fields. Experience in cutting-edge Data Analytics methods and/or method development. Strong linux skills and programming ability in at least one of the following: R, Python, C/C , Java, or Perl. Productivity demonstrated through a track record of publications and /or patents. Effective written and oral communication of scientific results.
