DuPont Pioneer is seeking a qualified Bioinformatics Research Scientist to meet the needs of genomic researchers at Pioneer. The successful applicant will lead computational projects in the bioinformatics research space through collaborations with other bioinformatics scientists, software developers and laboratory researchers to provide bioinformatics and data analysis solutions. The research scientist will also work directly with molecular biologists to help guide their data explorations and to help drive analytical procedures. This person will work as part of a team to develop custom software pipelines that facilitate data processing analyses, as well as to derive biologically meaningful results from computational analyses. The ideal candidate must have a solid background in computer science, Linux, Python programming, and database design. Those candidates with demonstrated experience in nucleotide sequence analyses, including sequence alignment, genome assembly, and comparative genomics are encouraged to apply. This position will work closely with scientists and support staff members to ensure that research needs are adequately represented, and that the bioinformatics needs are appropriately met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires the individual to conduct computational biology analyses either using existing software and in-house pipelines, or by developing new tools. In this position, you will work with bioinformatics scientists, software developers, and third party vendors to deliver timely results to client directed projects. This position also requires to work with scientists in genomics research to help guide their data explorations and to help evaluate and drive analytical solutions.
The position will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of programs and pipelines in a Linux environment to analyze data using standard bioinformatics programs and methods. You will also develop web applications and in-house software for researchers. Effective communication within the bioinformatics group and with research collaborators to understand their needs and specifications is a necessity.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field and 2 to 4 years of related experience, which can include post-doctoral training, or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience preferred.
Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field and minimum of 7-9 years of related experience required. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to work with large amounts of biological data and work effectively as part of a team. Proficiency in programming using Python, C and "C " in a UNIX environment is required.
Other desired computing skills include: Oracle, SQL, Javascript, and Hadoop. A sound understanding of nucleotide sequence analyses, DNA sequence alignment, DNA/RNA assembly, and genome annotation is desired but not required.
