Job Description:
The Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the areas of neurophysiology and/or neural circuitry. We seek candidates with research experience in connectivity, synaptic plasticity, neural activity and behavior at the molecular, cellular, or organismal level. Applicants using zebrafish, fly, rodent, or other animal model systems of human disease, as well as innovative approaches including optogenetics, molecular genetics, electrophysiology, or advanced imaging are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience with a strong track record. The successful candidate is expected to establish an innovative research program in neurobiology to address fundamental questions in the areas listed above, to teach undergraduate and/or graduate students, and participate in ongoing programs in the Department of Biological Sciences and the recently established Purdue Integrative Neuroscience Center.

The Department has over 50 faculty members conducting research in a wide range of fields in addition to neurobiology, including structural biology, molecular/cell biology, bioinformatics, microbiology, evolutionary biology, and ecology ( http://www.bio.purdue.edu/ ). The successful candidate will have excellent opportunities to interact with many colleagues within the Department and on campus, including in the Colleges of Science, Engineering, Pharmacy, Health and Human Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, and the Purdue Integrative Neuroscience Center. Purdue has recently made significant investments in advanced imaging technologies including MRI, biophysical instrumentation, and nanotechnologies, some of which are available at the Bindley Bioscience Center and the Birck Nanotechnology Center. As an ADVANCE institution, Purdue University is dedicated to the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women STEM faculty.

Applications must be submitted electronically to https://hiring.science.purdue.edu/ as a PDF file that includes a detailed curriculum vitae, names and addresses of three referees, a 2-3 page summary of research interests and future plans, and a one-page teaching statement. The Department of Biological Sciences is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter, indicating their past experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion. Inquiries should be directed to NeuroSearch@bio.purdue.edu . Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2015 and continue until the position is filled. A background check will be required for employment in this position. Purdue is a dual career friendly employer.
