Description
A funded postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Carlson at the United States Food and Drug Administration in Silver Spring, Maryland. The fellow will design/assess phage-based therapies against Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) and Clostridium difficile infection in animal models. Additionally, the fellow will investigate the role of phage/host evolution in the context of host specificity and resistance to phage infection. Ideal candidates will have experience in microbial genetics and pathogenesis. Specific responsibilities and roles will be dependent on experience level of the applicant.

This is a fellowship through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). Candidates will be offered competitive salary based on their experience according to FDA/DBPAP. The initial appointment will be through September 2016 with potential for a renewal at that time.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and FDA. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon the recommendation of FDA and contingent on the availability of funding. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at FDA in the Silver Spring, Maryland, area. Participants do not become employees of FDA or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Qualifications
Eligible candidates who have completed Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in the last two years will be considered for this position.
