Job Description:
The Forage Improvement Division of The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc. is seeking applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. The Foundation has state-of- the-art research and greenhouse facilities, and modern laboratory and office areas. Research related to this position will be conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Maria Monteros. The incumbent will be responsible for research focused on activities related to root phenotyping in the laboratory, greenhouse and field to identify desirable root system architecture for various growing conditions to maximize nutrient and water use efficiency. Other duties may include but are not limited to screening forage germplasm using the established root phenotyping systems, establishing desirable root ideotypes under different growing conditions and identification of genetic determinants of root growth using genomics-based technologies. The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for the design and implementation of experiments, germplasm characterization, developing populations, data analysis and interpretation and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
This Postdoctoral Fellow position is funded through an internal research initiative. The Noble Foundation’s Forage365 research initiative aims to provide a sustainable, year-round grazing system. Funding for this position will be available in January 2015. Funding is anticipated to be renewed annually based upon performance and funding availability and is scheduled to end on or before December 31, 2017.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have a PhD in plant breeding, genomics or related area, with a strong background in molecular breeding approaches and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with root screening under various growing conditions to assess stress responses, breeding, genome-wide association studies, genotyping by sequencing, genomic selection, and strategies to evaluate post-transcriptional regulation is preferred.
