Genomics and Bioinformatics Position
The Forensic Science Program at Trent University invites applications for a tenure-track position in genomics and bioinformatics, at the rank of Assistant Professor (current annual salary range $84,870 - $90,322), subject to budgetary approval.  The position is targeted to begin July 1, 2016.  Candidates must have a PhD and experience teaching at a university level. The position involves establishing an externally funded research program, attracting and directing graduate students, and teaching at the undergraduate level in the Forensic Science Program.
The successful candidate is expected to have published genomics research and to work in a collaborative fashion with faculty in Forensic Science, across Trent University, and beyond.  Preference will be given to those with demonstrated experience at both the wet lab and bioinformatics levels.  Research themes involving any taxon, community or ecosystem will be considered.  Those programs with a link to Forensic Science in a broad context will be a particularly good fit for the position.  Teaching possibilities include introductory and upper year courses in the Forensic Science Program such as: Laboratory DNA Forensics, Applied Molecular Genetics (Genomics), Biocrime and Bioterrorism, or Non-human DNA Forensics, and an upperlevel course in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Trent University is a vibrant community of undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty.  The Forensic Science Program has main offices in the DNA building and Health Science Centre on the picturesque Symons campus of Trent University in the city of Peterborough (www.trentu.ca).  The Trent University Wildlife Forensic DNA Laboratory which provides DNA forensic evidence for provincial, federal, international, and non-government agencies is also located in the DNA building.
Completed applications will consist of a CV, separate statements of the applicant’s research interests and teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information of three referees who are willing to write letters on the candidate’s behalf.  We accept only electronic submissions to Dr. Barry J. Saville, Chair, Forensic Science Program, Trent University (barrysaville@trentu.ca).
Applications will be reviewed beginning November 30, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.
Trent University is actively committed to creating a diverse and inclusive campus community and encourages applications from all qualified candidates. Trent University offers accommodation for applicants with disabilities in its recruitment processes. If you require accommodation during the recruitment process or require an accessible version of a document/publication, please contact barrysaville@trentu.ca.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
