Job Description:
PDF will focus on the development, benchmarking and applications of computational methods to characterize functions of proteins and small RNAs from their sequence. We are interested in protein-nucleic acids interactions, protein-small ligand (drug) interactions, protein-protein interactions, and miRNA-mRNA interactions. Our research also includes target selection for structural genomics and characterization of intrinsic disorder. Preferred qualifications include:
- Ph.D. completed or to soon be completed in computer science, bioinformatics or related fields
- Background and practical experience in the design, implementation, benchmarking and deployment of algorithms, focusing on machine learning approaches
- Programming experience in java or C/C++, and shell scripting. Experience with SQL, php, java script, and development of webservers are not required but a big plus.
- Strong ability to write and revise scientific publications and work in teams.
- Experience in grant writing is a plus but not required.
- Experience in prediction and modelling of protein function and structure from sequence is a plus but not required.

Full-time postdoctoral fellowVCUComputer ScienceUSA-VA-Richmond Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) position is now open in my research group at VCU. My lab uses in-silico approaches to generate predictive models and interpret information encoded in proteins and small RNAs, from individual molecules, through complete proteomes and genomes, to studies that span thousands of organisms. We authored several state-of-the-art models for high-throughput characterization of functions and structures of proteins and small RNAs from their sequences.PDF will focus on the development, benchmarking and applications of computational methods to characterize functions of proteins and small RNAs from their sequence.
