Job Description:
The Faculty of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is calling for applications to fill a vacancy for a full-time professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Bioprocesses in the area “Advanced Thermodynamics”. Duties include performing excellent undergraduate and graduate teaching and research, and contributing to the creation of new lines of research and innovation in the areas of energy, environment and natural products. In addition, it is expected that the candidate will lead research and technological projects such as FONDECYT, FONDEF, CORFO, among others. Finally, it is required that the candidate will develop bridges between our department and other departments of the School of Engineering through research in advanced thermodynamics applied to solve different energy and environmental problems of Chilean society. The applicant should expect to interact with departments such us: (i) Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy; (ii) Mining Engineering; (iii) Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering; (iv) Electrical Engineering.

Desired Skills and Experience
Applicants must have a degree in chemical engineering and a PhD in a related discipline with a research focus in advanced thermodynamics. It is desirable a Postdoctoral stay in a scientific group of excellence related to research in advanced thermodynamics, and several ISI papers published in high impact journals related to chemical engineering topics. It is important that the applicant is able to work collaboratively. Additionally, Applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence and a strong vocation for all aspects of academic life, be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, have a genuine interest in getting involved with our graduate programs (specially the PhD program) and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda.
The successful candidate will also be expected to create new undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g. Advanced Thermodynamic Simulations, Phase Equilibria, Statistical Mechanics and Molecular Simulations) and teach traditional courses in related areas (e.g. Chemical Process Design, Thermodynamics, Physical Chemistry, Unit Operations, Separation Processes,). Candidates do not need to know Spanish at the time of applying, but should be prepared to learn the language well enough to teach.
