The Beacon is looking to recruit a Technologist in Specialist Genomics who will work with a wide range of individuals within the Beacon, aligned Faculties and Schools, and research centres. The role holder will be expected to actively develop new methods and approaches using the wide range of equipment and resource available to the beacon. Particular areas of focus will include long read sequencing, direct RNA, optical mapping and single cell sequencing methods. The post holder will be expected to train colleagues in the use of equipment and best practice for the preparation and manipulation of DNA and RNA for sequencing. - To plan and organise the technical organisation and operation of advanced experimental and technical work within the Future Foods Beacon for the provision of next generation sequencing and genomics. To make a significant contribution to the development of research methods, in the use and application of specialist sequencing apparatus
- Utilise highly specialist expert technical knowledge and skills to conceptualise and interpret the needs of the users of the Future Foods DeepSeq platform. Specifically, to make significant contribution to the design and implementation of sequencing strategies for complex and/or novel biological problems.
- To provide expert guidance and support to staff and/or students, as required, as a recognised source of high level technical and experimental expertise. Liaise at a technical level with internal and external partners. Allocate and manage user needs.
- To conduct complex quantitative and qualitative analyses contributing to the interpretation of the results and the development of research. Generate and analyse data for research publications and make significant contribution to writing research reports.
- Present research methodologies and findings at local/national level and contribute to publications. Generate and analyse highly complex data and write research publications and reports. Assist with responses to referees for both grant applications and papers where appropriate.
- Minimum BSc (or equivalent) in an appropriate science
- A proven ability to manage and develop a technically demanding mixture of modern advanced equipment and undertake research using such equipment together with skills and knowledge in next generation sequencing technologies and theory
- Knowledge of bioinformatics and understanding of the concepts of NGS data analysis and the implementation bioinformatics tools for the generation of results.
- Proven advanced technical and experimental expertise in next generation sequencing
