Basic qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent experience in human genetics, pharmacogenetics, genomics, clinical pharmacology, biology or related field. Preferred qualifications: -Proficient in human genetics, with publications in peer reviewed journals. -Demonstrated ability to interpret genetic associations of rare and common diseases and investigate underlying genetic mechanisms. -Demonstrated skills in working in teams to address scientific questions. -Excellent communication and influencing skills and developing leadership skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and international colleagues. -Quantitative analytical skills and familiarity with common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools to generate and follow up testable genetic hypotheses. -Experience in the design and interpretation of laboratory-based methods to investigate the functional role of genetic variants in biology and disease. -Experience in the field of pharmacogenetics to support development of medicines. Details: The selected Investigator, Genetics will • Develop and implement strategies to acquire, analyze, interpret and apply human genetic evidence to inform target selection decisions within selected therapeutic areas of focus • Collaborate across Target Sciences to identify and champion new drug targets. • Lead project teams and coordinate external collaborations. • Contribute to the developing science of target validation, providing expertise and scientific leadership within Genetics and across Target Sciences. We are seeking innovative and dynamic geneticists with a passion to draw on human genetics evidence to identify the next generation of new drugs to meet global medical needs. Target Sciences, led by Lon Cardon, aims to improve the number of successful late stage clinical trials by identifying and advancing drug targets with strong evidence of their role in disease biology. The team builds on major scientific and technology advances, breakthrough understanding of biological pathways, genomics and genetics, rapid progress in gene editing, informatics and the emergence of large scale human health databases. In addition Target Sciences has recently established two key strategic relationships: the Center for Therapeutic Target Validation (CTTV) in the UK and the Altius Institute for Biomedical Sciences in the US. Successful candidates will work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative and scientifically driven environment, interacting with key academic collaborators and GSK scientists to advance drug discovery and clinical development in multiple therapeutic areas. This field-leading research addresses important drug discovery and development challenges, directly impacts GSK’s R&D pipeline, and publishes results in top scientific journals. These posts may be based at either the South-East England (Stevenage) or Philadelphia (Collegeville and King of Prussia) R&D sites.
