Job Description:
We are seeking an intern who has been trained in computational biology, and has demonstrated a broad understanding in human biology. The intern will work on building models of cell-cell communication network to improve the mechanistic understanding of multi-cellular tissue functions in normal and perturbed conditions. The intern is expected to use public or in-house RNAseq data to construct cell-cell communication networks to uncover novel biological mechanisms that drive to tissue-level function. If time permits, experimental validation of model prediction will be performed in cell-based models. The intern will take the initiative to identify gaps in our knowledge by taking advantage of their technical expertise and academic connections.

Basic Qualifications:

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Master’s program for a Masters internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree Concentration(s): in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related field
  • Experience in programming languages such as R and python and in UNIX scripting
  • Experience in analyzing RNAseq data is highly desirable
  • Excellent organization skills and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and strong work ethic
  • Excellent attention to details
