Job Description:
Primary Function


- Responsible for bioinformatics across all preclinical and clinical therapeutic areas at Seattle Genetics. Leads initiatives to understand disease pathogenesis and progression, drug mechanism of action, and response to therapies from a Bioinformatics perspective. Provides hands-on support as needed.
- Reports to: Head of Translational Medicine, or Head of Diagnostics/Biomarkers

Key Responsibilities:

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of Bioinformatics, including resource planning and budgeting
Provides bioinformatics support to study and project teams
Participates in establishing and maintaining policies, standards, and guidance for the operation of Bioinformatics
Hires, mentors and manages employees. Selects, hires and monitors qualified and cost-effective contractors, consultants, and/or CROs.
Oversees, plans for, and identifies prognostic, diagnostic, response, and safety markers using preclinical and clinical data, including Phase 0-4 clinical and biomarkers.
Develops and implements analysis strategies for patient stratification, drug positioning and predictive modeling using clinical and biomarker data and state of the art bioinformatics tools and techniques.
Integrates multi-modal multi-analyte clinical and biomarker data from preclinical studies, clinical trials and the literature to understand disease pathogenesis and progression, drug MOA, and response to therapies.
Works closely with clinicians, preclinical and biomarker scientists and clinical statisticians to generate testable hypotheses, design experiments, and incorporate pharmacodynamics and biomarkers in study protocols.
Communicates analyses results and interpretations to complex matrix teams of biomarker leads, clinicians, clinical statisticians, informaticians and preclinical scientists.
Works closely with biomarker leads, clinical pharmacology and translational research teams to identify and address near-term and long-term bioinformatics needs for pre-clinical and clinical programs.
Enhances and enables the clinicians, preclinical scientists, and biomarker leads to interact with biomarker data and analyses results.

Desired Skills and Experience

- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics/Statistics or related field with at least 10 years relevant experience in biotech, pharma or academia, and 5 years of management experience
- Drug development experience in oncology and inflammation. Strong understanding of the disease biology in oncology and immunology.
- Working experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferably in clinical research.
- Strong background in Omic (RNA, proteomic, epigenetic) data analysis and biological interpretation.
- Proficiency using R /SAS and Bioconductor packages, commercial bioinformatics tools (ArrayStudio, Partek), data visualization tools (Spotfire, Cytoscape), molecular pathway analysis tools (Metacore, IPA), related languages (Java, C#, XML, Perl, C, C++, SQL) and commercial and publicly available biological databases (ArrayExpress/GEO, Oncomine, TCGA, 1000 Genomes etc.).
- Proficiency with biostatistics and data mining methodologies in conducting supervised and unsupervised analysis of Omic data.
- Proficiency with integration of multi-modal multi-analyte biomarker data with clinical data and knowledge management platforms.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation of disease pathogenesis and drug mechanism of action.
- Familiarity with regulatory submissions, including NDA/BLA or PMA, in a relevant therapeutic area. Understanding of ICH guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to communicate efficiently with clinicians, preclinical scientists, biomarker scientists, biostatisticians and computational scientists. Ability to explain bioinformatics technical issues to technical and non-technical staff
