Job Description:
The head of experimental bioinformatics needs to exhibit strong leadership experience and have a track record of bringing innovative SaaS, Big Data or Cloud based products to market, on-time and on-budget. You will report into and work closely with the Senior Director of Data Science and Architecture to help define strategy and direction for this new project.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate with have a mix of technology and life science experience spanning 15+ years. He/she must have worked in a research environment or for a firm with technologies supporting assay research and/or data management for genetic, proteomic and/or cancer-related initiatives. The candidate must be passionate about cloud/SaaS business models, big data analytics technologies, and have impeccable data science skills. They will anchor their decisions in strategy and defend them with data, influence, and an understanding of how to collaborate with the product teams, and thrive in a “startup-like” environment.

Top 3 skill sets / technologies in the ideal candidate:

1. Deep knowledge of data science and bioinformatics especially proteomics.

2. Outstanding oral and written skills.

3. Must be able to work with internals team and have credibility with external subject matter experts.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements:

Leads a team of people who design, develop and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

Plans, manages, and controls the activities of a team that interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Brings expertise or identifies subject matter experts in an effort to integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Advises business groups by providing strategic direction to initiative prioritization, integration and resource application. Ensures that policies and procedures align with corporate vision. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel ensuring efficient operation of the function.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations is important. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to multitask. Ability to travel as needed. Demonstrated leaderships skills. BA/BS degree or equivalent. Advanced degree desirable.

Oracle is funding an internal initiative to enable collaboration and accelerate research around cancer. Our working title is ORACLE Cancer Cloud and t is an extremely ambitious project that brings assets from across the corporation to provide researchers a private area for them to conduct their research. In exchange we will curate their data, anonymize it, and aggregate it into a massive data warehouse that can be accessed by all the players in the ecosystem (researchers in academic centers, pharma, payers, clinicians providing care, etc.). The idea is that not only can we provide the infrastructure to make research more efficient, but also to provide the means to patients who have cancer can get the best treatments available and be aware of the most current research being done.

Department Description:

Our team will be driving the design, development, and delivery of the Cancer Cloud. We will be at the cutting edge of data acquisition, integration and curation for all types of data necessary to support research, clinical, therapeutics, etc. We will leverage assets from inside and outside to company to ensure the best options are available to our constituents.
