Job Description:

BridgeUp: STEM is a new AMNH youth initiative focused on science and computing, dedicated to increasing the diversity of the talent pipeline by providing underrepresented students access to the skills and tools required for the 21st Century.

In February 2015, we will launch our Brown Scholars program -- a tuition-free, 2-year after-school intensive program for 9th and 10th grade girls. Each cohort of 15 high school students will complete a year (totaling 120 classroom hours) of instruction in computer programming, data visualization, and computational science. Students who complete the first year can apply to a second year of project-based research at AMNH.

Fellowship Details:
The Helen Fellowship Program is a competitive post-baccalaureate fellowship that prepares female technical leaders for careers in science and industry. The Fellowship includes both a teaching and a research component on-site at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Helen Fellows will provide instructional support to the BridgeUp: STEM educators, serve as mentors to Brown Scholars, and conduct collaborative research under an AMNH faculty advisor.

The Helen Fellowship offers three tracks:
Track 1: This full-time fellowship offers a research and teaching position for one year at AMNH. This track is intended for recent college graduates and is a full-time commitment. This fellowship is non-renewable.
Track 2: This part-time fellowship is for masters or doctoral students and may be renewed for a second year. This fellowship is intended to support graduate students while enrolled in a full-time program in the greater New York City region and would take the place of a teaching assistantship or similar university support.
Track 3: This full-time fellowship offers a research and teaching position for one year at AMNH. This track is intended as a postdoc position and is renewable for two years.

Benefits:
Full-time fellows (Track 1 & 3) will receive a yearly allowance of $70,000 plus benefits.
Part-time fellows (Track 2) will receive a yearly allowance of $35,000 (for up to 2 years). Benefits may be available on a case-by-case basis. Support may be available for relevant conference attendance and publication costs.

Important Dates:
Application Deadline: January 30th
Selected Applicants Invited for Interviews: March 15
Award Notification: April 1st
**NOTE: Start date is flexible. We anticipate this fellowship will begin in the fall of 2015.

Eligibility requirements for Track 1 applicants:

- Currently living in, or willing to relocate to, greater New York City (note: relocation expenses are not reimbursed)
