Job Description:
Due to the expansion of the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre’s programme in next generation sequencing a bioinformatician post focusing on next generation sequencing data analysis has become available. You will be part of the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre programme, based at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics and at the Molecular Diagnostics Centre. Our focus is on translational research and in particular, the clinical applications of genomics technologies including whole exome and genome sequencing to rare diseases, cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
You will be responsible for next generation sequencing data analysis (including exome, genome and targeted sequencing) and computational aspects of the sequencing operations for the BRC genomics programme, including setting up appropriate analysis pipelines and sample tracking databases. You will be encouraged to develop novel analytical methods in collaboration with groups within the WTCHG which is an active and rich research environment.
You should have a PhD in bioinformatics or statistical genetics and preferably have strong post-doctoral experience in applied DNA sequence analysis. Experience in the analysis of next generation sequencing data is highly desirable. You will need excellent programming skills in languages such as Perl, C/C++, R, Python, Java, SQL or similar. Ability to work as part of a team is essential.
The position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance and funded by the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre and the Health Innovation Challenge Fund.
