Job Description:
Higher Scientific Officer (PET/SPECT Radiochemistry) Institute of Cancer Research Location: Sutton Salary: £31,078 to £38,690 Hours: Full Time Contract Type: Contract / Temporary Placed on: 29th April 2015 Closes: 5th May 2015 Job Ref: 1461797The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today, we lead the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally. The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.
A Higher Scientific Officer (HSO) post is available in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility to carry out PET/SPECT radiochemistry. This post will be based in the PET Radiochemistry team under Dr Graham Smith and will work closely with Dr Adrian Hall (Radiopharmacy, RMH). The post holder will also work closely with the Radioisotope Physics team (Dr Glenn Flux), clinicians in Nuclear Medicine, scientists from the Cancer Imaging Centre and the wider Division of Radiotherapy & Imaging, to support drug discovery and imaging projects at The Institute of Cancer Research/The Royal Marsden Hospital.
The post holder will work on PET/SPECT radiochemistry applied to radiopharmaceuticals of significant interest at ICR/RMH. Previous radiochemistry experience is strongly preferred. The anticipated programme of work is expected to be translational in nature and experience in this area is desirable. A new £20M Centre for Cancer Imaging has recently opened on site and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the successful build-up of radiochemistry capability in this facility. This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic, committed chemist to make an important contribution to new and improved cancer imaging agents in a world leading facility.
The appointments will be for 1 year with a starting salary in the HSO grade (range of £31,078 to £38,690 p.a. inclusive) depending on experience. Further information can be found in the full job description.
For further details please contact Dr Graham Smith on 020 8722 4482.
