Job Description:
The Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM; http://www.igmm.ac.uk/) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly motivated and user-focused Postdoctoral Bioinformaticist to play a core role in the Institute's medical genomics strategy. The post holder will join an innovative partnership emerging between the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow and the Scottish NHS: The Scottish Genomes Partnership (SGP; http://www.scottishgenomespartnership.org/). The SGP will massively extend the cutting-edge medical genomics research done in Scotland, and aims to establish genomics in clinical practice. This post will participate in the data analysis and management of SGP medical genomics sequencing efforts at IGMM, encompassing high impact projects on developmental disorders, cancers and population cohorts. They will be a key member of the evolving SGP Informatics Implementation Team involving computational staff in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and ensuring standardised data formats and analysis pipelines between SGP sequencing and data management centres, in line with global initiatives. This shared commitment to common, optimal informatics solutions in genomics underpins the SGP approach to federated analysis. Developing efficient and secure infrastructure for the identification, management and interrogation of causative mutations from whole genome sequence data generated by SGP will be a particular priority.

The post holder will be based in the new, state of the art Systems Medicine building at IGMM, designed around our thriving community of computational biologists. This post will have a critical role in medically relevant scientific discoveries providing analyses of large sequencing, imaging and other relevant datasets. It offers an opportunity to bridge the work of clinical scientists working on a wide range of human disorders and the rapidly developing world of sequencing technologies and bioinformatics. This post would suit a biologist with substantial bioinformatics experience or a scientist from a statistical/mathematical/computing background with a strong interest and research experience in biomedicine. Good project management and interpersonal skills are also desirable.
