Job Description:
This position description does not represent a current opening but may be used to identify candidates with skills and experience for positions within Leidos Biomedical Research that frequently become available. Candidates who express an interest may be considered for future positions at Leidos Biomedical Research.

  • Position would act as the POC/liaison between LASP and IT including 3rd party vendor, for the animal research data management system.
  • Coordinates and provides training in the animal research data management system for users. Users will include all levels of staff at multiple locations.
  • Will act as a subject matter expert in providing first-line troubleshooting of software and provide technical support to end users of system.
  • Recommend/implement workflow process changes with LASP animal facilities to optimize inventory efficiency and accuracy of data management.
  • Will troubleshoot and track data management issues, independently exercising judgment to select appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Coordinates application installations/upgrades/enhancements and assesses system needs by working with end users, IT support personnel and commercial vendor.
  • Document end-user information and recurring technical issues to support the system and identify any system “bugs” or development requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring project timelines and providing related status reports.
  • Generates and maintains program documentation to include (but not limited to): standard operating procedures, quality assurance reports, user listings, account requests, training materials, training records, time-sensitive reports, and equipment service requests.
  • Document log updates, databases and other electronic documents; reviews documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with government investigators and animal facility management to optimize records and reports.
  • Will procure the necessary hardware for barcode census and coordinate implementation of barcoding system.
  • Perform quality assurance/census analysis to ensure data accuracy; QA will require entrance into animal holding rooms which will require the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols.
  • This position will interact will all levels of staff including principal investigators on the Bethesda and Frederick campus.
  • Position requires excellent judgment and organizational skills in order to effectively manage a significant and complex workload.
Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in a field related to biomedical research i.e. biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computers (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience
  • Experience and skills in utilizing databases and other software to manage animal colony and research data
  • Ability to maintain precise, accurate records and data collection
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment
  • Ability to conduct group and individual training for all staffing levels
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to set-up and maintain computer-based file systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, arrange meetings, and schedule and coordinate work
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Knowledge of laboratory animal management software.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory animal science terminology is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in data migration
  • Experience in troubleshooting computer and database errors
  • Ability to create SOP documents and training material
  • Budget tracking
  • Public speaking and training to large groups
