Job Description:
Gusto Global LLC, a drug discovery and development company with a focus on next generation microbiome-inspired immune-modulation therapies, seeks to hire a highly motivated bioinformatics postdoc to aid in the development of a software platform for the annotation, analysis, and modeling of human gut microbiomes and custom microbiome formulations. The successful candidate will be extremely comfortable developing new algorithms and software for the annotation, analysis, and/or modeling of genomic and metagenomics data, and integrating these data with other omics datasets. The candidate will be operating within a small, versatile, innovative, and rapidly-growing start-up environment, interacting closely with a small team of talented and world-leading scientists (Jack Gilbert, Christopher Henry, Daniel van der Lelie and Safiyh Taghavi) who co-founded the company. The position is located in the Charlotte region, North Carolina, USA.

Required skills:

1.) PhD in bioinformatics, bioengineering, computer science, biology, or related field

2.) Highly proficient in python and/or perl

3.) Capable of conceiving and implementing algorithms and software for the annotation, analysis, storage, management, and access of genomic and metagenomic data.

4.) Extensive experience analyzing genomic and metagenomics data, including amplicon and whole genome shotgun data

5.) Strong verbal and written communication skills

6.) Excited of operating within a team environment

Preferred skills:

1.) Experience with reconstruction and analysis of genome-scale metabolic models

2.) Experience with constraint-based modeling (e.g. flux balance analysis)

3.) Experience coding in C++

4.) Experience coding in Javascript and web application development

5.) Knowledgeable of computer hard-ware and system administration

6.) Experience with RAST, MGRAST, IMG, QIIME, anti-smash, ModelSEED, COBRA-Py, COBRA Toolbox, and PATRIC

Other prerequisites:

1.) The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States

2.) The successful candidate should be willing to locate to the Charlotte, NC area
