Job Description:
The Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) is seeking a successful candidate to fill the position of Information Technology Manager. The successful applicant will manage and lead the Applications Programming sub-unit and will be responsible for all aspects of the administration of Oracle and MySQL databases including performance, patching and upgrading. This individual will require a strong understanding of relational databases; DBA experience or oversight is a plus.

This individual will ensure that schedules and resource allocation are managed appropriately for this unit; will also be asked to provide budget information and assist in forecasting requirements in the areas of staffing, equipment, software, etc.; provide information or make recommendations on operational expenditures, and implement resource distribution plans. The successful candidate will also recommend and/or write requests for proposals (RFPs), review vendor responses, make recommendations, and participate in the selection process for the desired product or service.

The manager will make recommendations for changes in operational procedures when determined to be in the best interest of the unit or department. The manager will assist the senior management in overseeing adherence to University policies and procedures and training others in administration of such policies and procedures; may be charged with developing plans for achieving strategic departmental or research-driven goals, assessed through benchmarking. Ensure that continuous quality improvement initiatives are appropriately implemented and carried out within functional areas. Plan and carry out somewhat difficult assignments and recommend new methods, approaches, and procedures to meet the goals set in research objectives. Provide advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of issues pertaining to strategic planning or general operations of the unit. Evaluate and recommend adoption of new or enhanced approaches to delivering services. Appraise proposals for the acquisition of products and services. Provide specialized leadership on group projects.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in private and public sector organizations is highly desirable.
