Job Description:
REG, Life Sciences seeks talented and motivated individuals seeking experience in industrial biotechnology. Our internship program is open to qualified individuals at all levels of education and background from pre-high school to post-doctoral degrees and is aimed at individuals seeking specific hand’s-on experience. The program is open all year and has a target duration of 4-6 months to ensure thorough training and opportunity for accomplishment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Metabolic &; Enzyme Engineering Group:
· Design, implement, and evaluate genetic experiments and their data in the manipulation of microbial metabolism for improved strain performance
· Design, implement, and evaluate experiments and their data for the evolutionary engineering of enzymes for improved catalytic properties
· Develop and implement assays to characterize physiology of modified microorganisms
· Develop new techniques to increase complexity and throughput of genomic engineering efforts
Screening &; Bioanalytical Group:
- Support all of screening operations
- Develop and implement microbial high throughput fermentation, bioassays and analytical methods
- Quantitatively analyze protein expression, using targeted proteomics
- Develop analytical techniques to identify and characterize small molecules, products and by products
Bioprocess &; Downstream Process Group:
· Execute and analyze experiments to further fermentation process development efforts within the scope of relevant corporate projects and goals
· Experiments will be conducted at both shake flask and bioreactor scales
· Assist staff engineers in conducting lab and pilot scale downstream activities such as: fermentation harvest, further refining of fermentation derived biofuels / biochemicals, and executing experiments to improve existing downstream process unit operations
· Conduct various analytical assays to characterize fermentation derived biofuels / biochemicals and report on results
Perform other duties and assignments as required
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required : All levels from high school to post-doctoral degrees
Experience Required : Exposure and interest in synthetic biology, pathway engineering, metabolic engineering, bioinformatics, bio-analytical chemistry, automation and high-throughput screening, fermentation process development, or down-stream process engineering
Skills Required:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Visio)
Basic accounting skills
Advanced math skills
Special skills or knowledge preferred:
Ability to give detailed instructions
