Job Description:
We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science and related programs for an internship during the summer of 2017. This summer internship opportunity is in MedImmune, Department of Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity. Core Responsibilities: The Department of Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity is seeking an intern, with an interest in accelerating the development of new medicines, strong skills with genomic data analysis, and familiarity with R coding and Unix/Linux operating systems. · Analyzing genomic (such as microarray and next generation sequencing (NGS)) and proteomic data to facilitate new drug target discovery · Developing user-friendly and interactive visualization tool to provide biological insights from NGS data · Implementing data mining models to existing data to bring up and validate hypothesis. · Direct interaction with scientists to generate ideas and test hypotheses. Position Requirements: · Flair for programming, with experience with programming in R and client side web development tools. · Experience in analyzing NGS and microarray data · Experience in creating interactive visualization tools using R shiny or other tools · Familiarity with Unix/Linux operation. · Understanding of immunology and statistics a plus. · Understanding of the principles behind data mining an advantage. · Excited about working in a fast paced environment and must be a self-starter. · Ability to work effectively alone or as part of a team. Able to work effectively with colleagues. · Interested in using scientific knowledge and computer programs to deliver new insights to biomedical research. · Thoroughness and tenacity in solving problems. · Undergraduate or graduate student in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related programs. · Understanding of/or interest in biology and the business of drug discovery and development. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0+
