Job Description:

If that is your passion, we have a place for you. We have a rewarding opportunity for an internship focusing on Bioinformatics within Expression Analysis, a Quintiles company! This is a paid, graduate level (Master's or PhD) internship. PURPOSE To engage active students with a practical work experience within an industry setting comprising individuals of diverse talents across computer science, statistics and genetics. Engage in assisting completion of active bioinformatics projects. Gain exposure to client-facing interactions and effective communication of services provided by the group. Build existing and new profesional skills by learning through on the job experience and active mentoring relationships. Responsibilities

  • Work on client-facing presentations and documentations explaining technological service offerings.
  • Develop programming documentation including plans and specifications, as appropriate.
  • Work with applications software development in extending our software testing.
  • Address analytical requests from team members
  • Develop custom tools to address internal client requests
  • Assist with data delivery and troubleshooting.
Minimum Required Education And Experience Enrollment in existing graduate-level program preferred (Master's or PhD). Relevant coursework in one of the following fields: bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics or genomics. Applicant must provide coding examples in their language of choice (if in a programming heavy lab) if possible, else an example of analysis presentations they have performed/presented (more biological/genetics lab). Applicant must have prior approval from advisor prior to applying and is responsible for disclosing funding conflicts (training grants / fellowships / etc).
  • Foundational knowledge in Linux/UNIX-based systems
  • Knowledge of at least one of the following computing languages: C/C++, Perl/Python, Shell scripting within Bash environment or similar general purpose programming languages.
  • Statistical programming: SAS, R, Splus, Matlab is preferred.
  • Should have at least 33% of dissertation research requiring computational work
  • Exposure to microarray/sequencing technologies or other high-volume datasets.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients.
