Basic qualifications:

A MS Degree with 5+ years experience or PhD with 3+ years of experience in an academic, clinical or industry research environment (required) in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry or bio-engineering, with a strong publication record. Experience in advanced molecular and cellular biology techniques especially in Single Cell Genomics and Transcriptomics (required), and hands-on proficiency in next generation sequencing (NGS) technology, including experimental design and execution (essential)

Preferred qualifications:

Help develop and expand NGS capabilities in Single Cell Genomics/Transcriptomics to characterize normal and disease cells and tissues. Actively participate in planning, designing and executing Single Cell Genomics experiments using Fluidigm C1 and Biomark systems (from cell isolations to sequencing). Explore multiple applications of Single Cell technology (RNA-seq, DNA-Seq, Target Capture, etc.). Demonstrate the ability to lead Single Cell projects and project components. Work with bioinformatics personnel to interpret data and develop methods for data analysis. Manage project schedules and resources. Lead other scientists to achieve project objectives. Work with Genome Editing team to develop applications of Single Cell technology to identify and validate new drug targets

An exciting opportunity is available to conduct research in Single Cell genomics, transcriptomics, molecular and cellular biology, to help drive drug discovery research programs from conception to the clinic. Target Sciences is leveraging human genetic data and state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques in order to discover and validate novel therapeutic targets and pathways. We are looking for someone with a solid background in Single Cell genomic and significant hands-on experience in next generation sequencing (NGS). The person appointed to this position will design and execute Single Cell Genomics and Transcriptomics experiments , and also help develop and expand capabilities in advanced NGS techniques, e.g. ChIP-seq, DNase-seq, 3C-seq/Hi-C, in order to provide key biological data for target/pathway/biomarker identification and validation.
We are seeking an innovative and dynamic scientist to work in the Department of Target and Pathway Validation (TPV) within Target Sciences, in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment interacting with other molecular and cellular biologists, computational biologists, geneticists, statisticians, and therapeutic area experts (e.g. Oncology, Metabolic Disease, Infectious Disease, Respiratory Disease) across R&D, as well as with external collaborators and key strategic alliance partners. Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills are required, as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
Design and execute NGS experiments (DNA-seq, RNA-seq) to explore disease biology, target identification and validation, compound mechanism of action, and for biomarker discovery
Work with other GSK scientists to analyze and interpret results.
Help develop and expand NGS capabilities (e.g. use of single cell genomics/transcriptomics to characterize normal and disease cells/tissues).
Drive research projects from the lab bench in order to deliver high quality biological data in a timely manner
