Job Description:
Specifically, we are seeking a computational, modeling or informatics scientist with knowledge of active learning, multi-parameter optimization, chem- and bio- informatics, data visualization and software development to join this new Innovation team. The successful individual will be responsible for drawing upon experience and collaborating with internal experts to identify and develop the algorithms that will drive an intelligent, automated drug discovery platform. In these uncharted territories, this individual will need to be inquisitive, creative and bold.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement computational algorithms to enable Intelligent drug discovery automation.

• Interface computational algorithms with automation control software, internal data sources, compute servers and inventory systems.

• Design and build user interfaces to the automated platforms as required.

• Be the point of contact for computational support of drug discovery program teams that are utilizing team-derived automation platforms.

• Continuously collaborate with internal experts to understand the needs of Discovery scientists for the purpose of building new or refining existing intelligent automation platforms.

• Independently author scientific papers and presentations, and help represent the team and GlaxoSmithKline at internal and external scientific meetings.

Basic qualifications:

• PhD in mathematics or a computational science with 0-7 years postgraduate experience or a Masters in the same with 5- 10 years postgraduate experience, with a focus on machine learning, statistics and/or chem- or bio- informatics.

• Demonstrated expertise in developing and using machine learning and predictive modeling methods.

• Experience or at least significant knowledge of multi-parametric optimization methods.

• Proficient in one or more programming or scripting languages used in machine learning and predictive modeling, and competence in working in multiple computational environments (Linux/Unix/PC).

• Ability to design or assess hardware and network requirements for a computational effort or scientific lab.

• Demonstrated ability to influence peers and stakeholders at all levels.

• Significant comfort with challenging the status quo.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with software design and graphical user interfaces.

• Experience in instrument or robotic control.
