Johnson & Johnson’s Medical Devices division is recruiting for an IT Director, Data Scientist. This position can be located in Somerville, NJ, West Chester, PA or Raynham, MA and reports to the D1, Product Line Owner Data and Analytics for North America.

Work of the MD organization supports a multitude of product platforms, new products and delivery systems that are used in a wide range of procedures throughout the healthcare industry, including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, minimally invasive surgery, hospital sterilization, clinical laboratory testing, diabetes management, joint replacement surgery and vision care.

We are looking for an outstanding Scientist who is interested in leading, designing, developing, and fielding data mining solutions that have direct impact to Patients and Medical Devices. The role requires both a broad knowledge of existing data mining solutions, leadership and creativity to invent, customize and work in a multidisciplinary environment to drive business solutions.

There are many ways to explore and analyze data, and this drives the excitement and passion of data scientists at Medical Devices as many business units are eager to leverage the data to create business value. We are looking for a Scientist who stays on the cutting edge of data mining research, bioinformatics and big data technologies by leading, implementing and creating novel solutions to influence decisions at various levels in the organization.

The IT Director, Data Scientist will:
Work with colleagues in commercial IT to develop, implement, and apply state-of-the art scientific algorithms and methods for addressing business questions. Responsible for direct support of commercial and informatics data analysis projects and will deliver novel technological, computational solutions and analyses in support of project teams. Work closely with colleagues to keep up-to-date with the latest approaches and advances in data science and evaluate vendor tools and external data sets, as required. Work with data sciences/project teams with responsibility and accountability to drive business solutions. Work with complex, high-dimensional data and work to integrate and analyze data sets using high performance computing and advanced algorithms as required. Participate in project teams, elicit needs, and act in a leadership role as a trusted primary business and scientific partner. Work with other business units to map business requirements into technical solution and deliver results.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Master’s Degree WITH a minimum of four (4) years of related industry experience is required; M.D. or Ph.D. in Computer Sciences, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Informatics, Medical Informatics, Statistics, Computational Biology or a related discipline is preferred. A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in the fields of computational biology, bioinformatics or informatics is required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal, and written skills are required. Strong working knowledge of data mining algorithms including machine learning techniques such as decision trees, probability networks, association rules, clustering, regression, neural networks, Bayesian models etc. is required. Experience working very hands on in developing and implementing business solutions with techniques such as Data mining, Advanced Statistics, Artificial Intelligence based methods etc. is required. Proficiency with one or more programming language such as .net, Java, Perl, C++, etc. is required. Proven problem-solving skills are required. Excellent aptitude for application of mathematics and quantitative methods to business problems is required. Strong understanding of technological landscape in bioinformatics and big data is preferred. Experienced in data analysis and visualization software/tools is preferred. Familiarity with large datasets in ‘omics and an understanding of data analysis workflows is preferred. Up to 20% domestic and international travel is required.
