Job Description:
We are looking for a senior java/web developer or bioinformatician eager to speed up biomedical research. You will independently design, develop, test and document smart web apps to database, visualise and analyse genetics, biobanks and clinical research data and unravel the relationship between DNA, environment and disease, and to improve patient care. You will be part of an international scrum team of 7 developers, 2 data managers and 3 project leades using state-of-the-art techniques and frameworks and foremost, write a lot of code that you are proud of. We publish all our software as open source in MOLGENIS, a SaaS platform for scientific data (see http://github.com/molgenis).

What do we need:

The Ideal Candidate:

-has years of experience in Java.

-communicates easily with colleagues and users.

-likes to work and share best practices in a team.

-and also stands her ground in our JavaScript web frontend.

Experience in scrum (master), big data technologies, large-scale data storage in SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (Cassandra, Elasticsearch), microservices, DevOps, bioinformatics or biology is a plus.

What do we offer:

A full-time contract (36-hours a week) as a software developer for one year with a possible extension of a further three years with the opportunity to learn a lot. Your salary will be a maximum of € 4.152,- gross per month (scale 10), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and a development budget. The terms of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centers (CAO-UMC).

The position is the Genomics Coordination Center of the University Medical Center Groningen, Department of Genetics. With 25 colleagues we provide IT infrastructure to speed up life science research and improve health care, dealing with terabytes of DNA and RNA sequencing and large biobank data towards 'personalized medicine’. You work in close interaction with people from diverse backgrounds: geneticists, epidemiologists, statisticians, IT experts, data modelers and doctors. And we participate in national and European projects such as BBMRI-NL, ELIXIR, CORBEL and RD-connect.
