Job Description:
Studies of intercellular communication are nowadays routinely performed using live cell imaging techniques that allow visualizing processes in real-time and recording quantitative information on dynamical, functional and morphological aspects at the cellular level. The objective of this project is to develop novel computer algorithms that enable the automated quantification of cell migration, cell shape dynamics and cell activity from time-lapse microscopy videos of confrontation assays.
We expect:
• a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Natural Sciences (e.g. in Physics, Bioinformatics or Computer Science). Candidates about to earn their degree are welcome to apply.
• desirable methodological skills: experience in object-oriented programming, preferentially in C++, knowledge in image processing and a background in mathematical modeling
• high motivation and interest to join one of the interdisciplinary research areas of JSMC
• creativity and interest to shape your own thesis project
• an integrative and cooperative personality with enthusiasm for actively participating in the lively JSMC Community
• very good communication skills in English (instruction language at JSMC)
