Job Description:
The incumbent of this junior research position will assist and support other researchers in the Lab. The successful candidate will learn to support: 1) maintaining animal and human cell lines, 2) performing in vitro infections with human and animal pathogens, 3) conducting DNA and RNA sequencing experiments for samples from cell culture, animal model and human clinical samples, and 4) basic experimental data organization and analysis. The candidate will learn to understand the rationale for the researches, and learn to assist the development of research projects and hypotheses, the organization and interpretation of experimental data and results. This position will be a good fit for those individuals who are actively preparing for graduate studies in related areas like Genomics/Bioinformatics and are particularly interested in the applications in infectious disease areas. This position is Time-Limited but may be extending if the need exists.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Relevant baccalaureate degree. One year of biomedical research experiences. Excellent communication, teamwork and collaborative effort.

The Peng Lab uses systems approaches to better understand pathogen-host-microbiome interactions and microbial pathogenesis. The goal is to uncover underlying molecular mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis and to identify targets of intervention as well as biomarkers for clinical applications. We focus on computational analysis of high-throughput omics data combined with experimental validation. The Lab is housed in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Research Building located at the NC State Biomedical Centennial Campus, and is part of NC State Bioinformatics Research Center.
