Job Description:
Duties & Responsibilities:

The Park lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at HMS is a computational genomics lab specializing in genome analysis. The lab consists of highly talented and productive researchers from various quantitative fields. This Junior Scientific Programmer will assist researchers in the implementation of data processing pipelines as part of the 4D Nucleome Data Coordination and Integration Center project within Park Lab. Examples of tasks include:

  • Running existing bioinformatics programs on data sets to test their reliability and performance. This involves submitting jobs to the compute cluster, identifying problems, and interpreting the results. The number of datasets is large and running these jobs often require manual intervention.
  • Following instructions from senior team members to codify the pipelines in standards text formats (e.g. Docker or Common Workflow Language).
  • Some projects require efficient implementation of algorithms. The analyst may assist in taking research-level code to production-level code, creating documentations, and answering questions from users.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Some experience with sequencing data and bioinformatics methods are highly desirable. Strong programming skills and attention to detail are essential.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in the programming language python preferred. Ability to work well with others.
