LABORATORY HEAD POSITIONS IN GENOMICS AND DEVELOPMENT Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) Division of Genomics of Development and Disease The Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) seeks to recruit two new Research Laboratory Heads in the recently formed Division of Genomics of Development and Disease. Functional genomics in this division is supported by research strengths in developmental biology, human disease, models of disease, genomics and bioinformatics. This research generates important insights into mechanisms of development; the causes of developmental and inherited diseases; gene structure, function, regulation and interaction; and new molecular and genomic approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. IMB is a multidisciplinary research institute of The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. We emphasise high-quality fundamental research and its translation into medical and/or biotechnological outcomes. IMB is equipped with excellent facilities including next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, data management & computing, proteomics, microscopy & imaging, zebrafish and mouse models, genome editing, chemistry and drug discovery platforms. The roles We seek to recruit junior and mid-career (Academic Research Level C or D) researchers to IMB Laboratory Head positions. As an IMB Laboratory Head, the successful applicant will run an independent research program funded by competitive grants and fellowships. The applicant will initially be supported by a competitive start-up package.  IMB laboratory heads will conduct world-leading research with a strong focus on research excellence and cutting-edge, internationally recognised research. We wish to recruit two Laboratory Heads in the following areas:

  • genomics, transcriptomics, human genetics and/or bioinformatics
  • developmental biology, stem cells, gene regulation and/or animal models of disease.
A joint appointment with other UQ faculties, institutes and/or a Brisbane-area research hospital is possible. Selection criteria • A visionary research program in development, genomics and/or human disease that can be well-supported by grant and fellowship funding. • A strong history of research excellence and publication relative to opportunity. • Evidence of career momentum and leadership potential. The person We invite applications from senior postdoctoral researchers ready to launch their independent research careers and established independent researchers who meet the selection criteria.  The University of Queensland is an equal opportunity employer.
