Job Description:
The Lead Bioinformatics Programmer will serve the Department of Pathology & Immunology and its research mission at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). *Analyze and manage high-throughput sequence data generated by next-gen platforms, including 454, Ion Torrent, and Illumina HiSeq and MiSeq *Work closely with TCMC investigators, bioinformatics analysts, biostatisticians, and collaborators to help manage, analyze, and interpret sequence data for marker gene studies (e.g., 16S, ITS), and genomic, metagenomic, and transcriptomic projects *Implement software applications and systems to support sequence analysis *Contribute to the maintenance and development of the research informatics infrastructure *Train data analyst(s), students, and investigators as needed *Participate in funded research projects *Assist in the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication *Support efforts to obtaining additional research funding *Perform other tasks as assigned including statistical report generation, manuscript preparation, and software licensing maintenance In addition to adhering to the policies set forth by TCH and Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), the person must understand and act on the need for discretion due to the sensitive nature of research involving human subjects and specimens. Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Biological Sciences. Required: Five years experience in scientific programming with applications to biological research or a Master's degree in Computer Science or Biological Sciences and three years related work experience. Required: Experience with Perl, HTML, CGI, relation databases and SQL. Programming in a UNIX/LINUX environment. Preferred: Experience with C++ and programming using UNIX/LINUX clusters.
