Edinburgh Napier University is home to forward-thinking people inspired by the world around them. We create and support personalised learning and research opportunities that develop talent and solutions that really work and matter in today’s and tomorrow’s world.

Edinburgh Napier is a truly international University with over 18,000 students from 110 countries. As one of Scotland’s top universities for graduate employability with 95.4% (HESA 2013), this is our testament of commitment to teaching and research. We have ambitious plans to grow in size, shape and further strengthen our academic reputation.

The School of Life, Sport & Social Sciences is recognised for the quality of the educational provision we offer, the employability of our graduates, and the international reputation and partnerships in specific research areas. The School is based within the University’s £60 million Sighthill campus. The Biomedical Science and Microbiology facilities are purpose-built, and house state-of-the art equipment you would expect to find in a University that invests in research, including: bioreactors; anaerobic chambers; microscopy and histology suites; and a full range of analytical chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry equipment. High-quality research staff and postgraduate student populations work on topics from antibiotic resistance in the environment to phage biology and novel antiviral therapies, through to cancer biochemistry and endocrinology. Part of the scope of this post would be to integrate and develop international-level research within an area aligned to our research ambitions.

You will join an enthusiastic team in the School running successful undergraduate, postgraduate and transnational programmes as well as carrying out international-level research. You will support the academic provision across our undergraduate programmes in Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences and Biological Sciences, in addition to our postgraduate and overseas suite of programmes as appropriate for your field of expertise.

You will be responsible for developing, designing and delivering teaching and student-centred learning underpinned by academic scholarship and professional practice, within your assigned areas of responsibility.

You will also be required to conduct individual and collaborative research projects, contributing to the research profile within your School, leading to the production of high quality research outputs/outcomes.

You will contribute to the University’s objective of growing our academic reputation for research-informed student learning and support students in achieving a positive experience on their programme.

You must be ambitious and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary working and be committed to working collaboratively across the University. You will be required to work independently and as part of a team, supporting others.

You will have excellent communication skills and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, engage and inspire others.

We are particularly interested in applicants who have a good track record of publication in their area of expertise with proven success in securing external grant funding, and/or who have experience of working collaboratively with external partners to support commercial activity. You will have research interests that enhance or complement existing research activities in the relevant subject area.

You must have:

* A doctoral level qualification in a relevant discipline
* Evidence of a professional academic research and/or commercial activity profile that is commensurate with the stage of your career alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development
* Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in a subject area/specialism to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes and have experience of research-led teaching and/or training
* Demonstrable evidence of a teaching specialisation
* Willingness to travel
