Job Description:
Lecturer in Statistics University College London - UCL Division of Psychiatry Location: London Salary: £37,152 to £48,873 Per annum, inclusive of London Allowance Hours: Part Time Contract Type: Permanent Placed on: 12th August 2015 Closes: 10th September 2015 Job Ref: 1483327

Part Time : 14.6 hours per week  (40%FTE)

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 0. The salary range will be Grade 7: £37,152 - £40,313 per annum; pro rata, Grade 8: £41,430 - £48,873 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

A teaching academic is sought whose primary role will be to teach statistics and to provide statistical advice to students on the MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences and the MSc in Mental Health Sciences Research at UCL’s Division of Psychiatry.

Our MScs are new courses established in 2014 to provide a broad range of options for advanced studies in mental health. There are pathways appropriate both for graduates in psychology wishing to further their knowledge of clinical aspects of mental health and for psychiatrists and other mental health professionals wishing to undertake advanced study.

The main formal teaching of the statistics is in the Statistical Methods in Mental Health Module, which is taught using the STATA package. There is also a major role providing statistical support for the research projects presented as papers prepared for publication which most students undertake. The person appointed will work closely with a Senior Research Associate in statistics who is already in post.

This post is funded by UCL for 14.6 hours per week (40%FTE) to help deliver both MSc courses in Mental Health Sciences, and is available immediately.

We are also advertising a 60% FTE post for a Research Associate in Psychiatric Epidemiology, Ref.1483356. Candidates who would be interested in applying for both posts are encouraged to do so.

The appointment will be made on either Grade 7 or Grade 8, depending on qualifications and experience. For appointment at Grade 7, applicants will preferably have experience of teaching and supervising postgraduate students; this is essential for Grade 8.

We are looking for someone who is an excellent teacher and communicator. As well as statisticians, we would consider epidemiologists and psychologists with advanced statistical skills and an excellent ability to communicate with and support students for this post. The successful candidate will have a higher academic degree or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publication, and preferably an MSc in Statistics, or with a large statistical component.
