Job Description:

Institute of Psychological Medicine & Clinical Neurosciences
MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics
School of Medicine, Cardiff University

The MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (CNGG) was founded in 2009 with the mission to use genetics and genomics to inform understanding of the aetiology, pathogenesis and classification of the major psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Following an extremely successful first term, the CNGG has been renewed by the MRC for a further 5 years and this is one of a number of new senior level posts designed to further develop the CNGG and associated research.

A high-calibre senior academic, you will facilitate the development of an internationally competitive research programme in bioinformatics. You will conduct high-quality research and teaching, and in particular will be responsible for developing bioinformatics methodologies for integrating “omics” data from multiple sources for the purposes of understanding the aetiology and development of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

You will have an established reputation at national level, ideally with evident potential to achieve success in research and scholarship at an internationally competitive level. You will also have a strong track record of contributing to or leading successful research bids, in addition to a portfolio of research grants. An understanding of complex genetics is highly desirable.

Appointment will be made at either Grade 7 or Grade 8 level, according to criteria as detailed in the Person Specification.

This post is a full time (35 hours per week) and is ongoing
