Objective

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland invites applications for the position of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Biophysics / Computational Biology. The position will be affiliated with the Department of Physiology and Medical Physics and the RCSI Centre for Systems Medicine. The RCSI Centre for Systems Medicine is a translational research centre which identifies genes, proteins and metabolites implicated in human disease, and utilizes systems biology and mathematical approaches in order to develop new therapies and prognostic tools for the treatment of cancer, neurological disorders and diabetes. The Department is responsible for education in Physics and Physiology in Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy and is active in postgraduate teaching, including structured PhD programmes.

A dynamic individual, with a proven academic track record, is sought to develop the research and education missions of the Department, and to lead an independent research programme in biophysics, systems biology or systems medicine to enhance the Centre’s  contribution to RCSI’s Translational Research ambitions.  Specific Responsibilities include:

Participating in the administration and delivery of current teaching programmes, teaching modalities and assessment in Physics and Physiology for undergraduate students in Medicine and Pharmacy Participating in the administration and delivery of teaching programmes in Biophysics, Molecular Imaging, Computational Biology and Systems Medicine for postgraduate students Establishing a research programme in Biophysics, Computational Physiology or Systems Biology/Medicine, complementary to ongoing research themes in the Department of Physiology and Medical Physics and the RCSI Centre for Systems Medicine (Oncology, Neuroscience, Metabolic disorders), and aligned with the RCSI Research Strategy Securing funding so as to sustain a research group of postgraduate students and other research staff, with resultant publications in journals of high quality/impact Fostering industry-academia interactions and commercialization of research findings Contributing to the development and introduction of new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment Liaising with colleagues across RCSI international campuses in the facilitation of research and teaching activities Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required Undertaking overseas assignments as may be required from time to time Performing such other related duties as may be required Representing the best interests of the Department, CSM and RCSI at all times

The current remuneration is as detailed below

Salary:  Lecturer: €47,108 - €84,689 Salary:  Senior Lecturer: €75,975 - €98,235
