Job Description:
This position description does not represent a current opening but may be used to identify candidates with skills and experience for positions within Leidos Biomedical Research that frequently become available. Candidates who express an interest may be considered for future positions at Leidos Biomedical Research.

LIMS Developer will: 1) Configure and maintain Clarity LIMS that tracks progress of clinical samples through wet-bench and computational protocols working with wet lab and bioinformatics team, 2) Work with ClinOmics Lead and wet lab personnel to perform basic admin duties to maintain Clarity LIMS, 3) Ensure LIMS system is updated with existing SOPs both wet lab and bioinformatics, 4) Ensure LIMS system launches pipeline, 5) Ensure that LIMS keeps track of reagents, 6) Ensure LIMS communicates with Labmatrix, Soft Path and CRIS system working with CCR IT, CBIIT, and CC Electronics Medical Records department, 7) Ensure BCL to FASTQ conversion is completed by pipeline, 8) Ensure all FASTQ is transferred to long term storage, TGen servers and Biowulf, 9) Ensure that level 3 data is backed up in long term storage, 10) Ensure data integrity, 11) Maintain detailed documentation of pipeline runs and validation/benchmarking projects, in accordance with CLIA standards, 12) Participate in weekly meetings, 13) Monitor Labmatrix, and genomics LIMS entries for all patients, 14) Work collaboratively with team members, and will ensure seamless transition of work when planning to be absent from the office.

Basic Qualifications

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

-A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Computer Science, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or a Masters in Life Sciences, with significant quantitative skills, is required or four (4) years of related experience in lieu of education

-Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency

-A minimum of two (2) years of progressively, responsible relevant experience as designated by the program requirements

-Experience in developing and maintaining Clarity LIMS in a clinical laboratory setting

-Tracking of work through project management programs

-Ability to be organized and keep detailed and accurate documentation

-Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

-Experience working in a CLIA/CAP environment

-Experience in working in both a research and production environment

-A solid understanding of biology, cancer and the molecular basis of human disease

-Previous experience working in a HPC environment

-Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Perl, Python, Shell scripting, R, MatLab, C, C++, Java

-Hands-on experience with analysis of NGS data: data QC; alignment and assembly; variant calling; identifying differentially expressed genes

-Experience in the design and development of databases to store large-scale biological data

-Experience in the development of pipelines to automate the processing of large-scale biological data

The mission of the Data Science and Information Technology Program (DSITP) is to develop an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure that provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Labs for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC) is a part of the DSITP within Leidos Biomed. The primary focus of ABCC is to support scientific research at NCI at Frederick, NCI-Bethesda, NIH, and other federal agencies through the Economy Act.
