The LSP is looking for a staff bioinformatician or computational biologists to work with data from a variety of experimental platforms with a focus on next-gen sequencing (NGS) technologies. These projects are highly collaborative and include scientists from different disciplines who work with the biomedical research community within the Harvard, MIT, and Broad community, providing you with a unique opportunity to participate in world-class research to make an impact on human health and security. The ideal applicant will have a background in biomedical or quantitative science and a strong interest in working with researchers in basic biology and medicine. They will thrive on scientific challenges, enjoy collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and excel at communicating with programmers and wet-lab scientists alike. That communication will require a strong understanding of both computational science as well as a solid grasp on biology, genetics and cell biology, and the ability to synthesize those fields. Developing and applying new NGS methods is a requirement, and the applicant will need good data management skills. Duties The bioinformatician will support selected research projects, working independently with researchers at HMS and the Harvard community. They will provide advanced and highly specialized tools and analysis methods to researchers, and will collaborate with other researchers in analyzing and interpreting the data collected for the projects at hand. Tasks will focus on a variety of sequencing (whole genome, exome, RNA, ChIP, ATAC-seq) and functional analysis (enrichment studies, GSEA, networks) including all necessary data management and visualization.

The bioinformatician will work on a range of projects with oversight by the LSP Director of Modeling and Informatics. The bioinformatician will analyze incoming data, and will be required to use existing analytical approaches commonly used in sequencing data analysis, and develop new methods where appropriate. They will document all work thoroughly, and provide manuscript-level descriptions of final analyses and results. Other duties will include data management, participation in LSP lab meeting, project meetings, and other collaborator meetings around the campuses. Where appropriate, the applicant will co-develop manuscripts for publication.
