The Molecular Biology Department of Massachusetts General Hospital is a member of Harvard Medical School and is known for cutting edge fundamental research. As a member of our Bioinformatics team, you will contribute to the advancement of computational and biomedical research within the department as well as the greater MGH and HMS community. You will work closely with investigators to answer key biological questions, with the emphasis on genome-scale data analyses. Your background must demonstrate a proven ability to work collaboratively and perform high quality analyses of large datasets in a timely manner.You will have many opportunities to engage in team problem solving, data analysis, and software development. You will contribute code to a shared computational infrastructure and will be expected to meet the high software development standards. You will evaluate existing computational methods and serve as a knowledge resource to collaborators seeking advice about the best tool for a particular problem.This position provides opportunities to publish and present original work including both data analysis in biological projects and new computational methods developed to advance these projects.
EDUCATION:
The successful candidate will have a masters or Ph.D. degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, cell biology, or a related fieldEXPERIENCE:

We are seeking a motivated, experienced molecular biology research technician to join our next generation sequencing team at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. This individual will be responsible for the daily lab operations in the core lab, including customer interactions, quality control of sequencing samples, operating the Illumina sequencing instruments, construction of sequencing libraries, and ordering supplies. The successful candidate will be able to operate very independently, manage many projects at once, keep accurate records, and execute complex molecular biology protocols in a robust and consistent manner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In an independent and timely fashion, maintain quality control and processing of next-generation sequencing data, from the initial output of the sequencing instrument to the customer-ready datasets. Perform troubleshooting and testing of computational tools and pipelines; contribute to technical documentation. Provide customer support with regards to advanced formatting, transfer, and retrieval of produced data. Evaluate existing computational methods and serve as a knowledge resource to collaborators seeking advice about the best tool for a particular problem.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Experience in modern molecular biology techniques including (PCR, restriction enzymes, ligations, cloning) Understanding of basic computational workflows Ability to work in Unix/Linux environment Proven ability to learn new computational tools and packages Excellent communication skills Highly organized and rigorous nature Experience in computational consulting/ customer support preferred. Experience in and expertise in quality control and material preparations including (QPCR, and Bio-analyzer profiling) Proven ability to complete sample pooling on the HiSeq machine Experience Running Illumina Clustering and Sequencing Ability to prepare and analyze library constructions of different types including RNA and DNAEDUCATION:
BS required; MS in biology, or related field strongly preferredEXPERIENCE:
3+ years of experience requiredWORKING CONDITIONS:
Research Building with Office and Laboratory Environment.
