Job Description:
Agios Pharmaceuticals is focused on discovering and developing novel drugs to treat cancer and rare genetic metabolic diseases, through scientific leadership in the field of cellular metabolism. In addition to an active research and discovery pipeline across both therapeutics areas, Agios has multiple first-in-class lead product candidates in cancer metabolism and rare genetic, metabolic diseases in clinical and/or preclinical development. All Agios programs focus on genetically identified patient populations, leveraging our knowledge of metabolism, biology and genomics.

Agios is seeking an experienced metabolomics scientist for a position in the Metabolism group. This individual will collaborate with many scientific disciplines for solving complex problems in a culture driven by innovation and creative scientific thinking. The qualified individual will have experience in LC/MS or GC/MS and multivariate or flux data analysis. The individual will contribute in this lab-focused position by analyzing in vitro, in vivo, and clinical samples using mass spectrometry and other related techniques for target identification and validation, biomarker discovery, and biological mechanism elucidation.

Job Responsibilities:
Use state of the art metabolomics techniques in a new mass spectrometry facility with strong focus on informatics pipelines and large scale automation hardware. Implement new analytical techniques and develop innovative approaches to solve complex biological problems. Prepare and analyze metabolites and/or lipids in samples from many sources (cells, media, blood, urine, animal and human-derived tissue) using mass spectrometry. Analyze data using commercial, open-source, and proprietary computational techniques for understanding target pathways, discovering biomarkers, and analyzing metabolic flux. Collaborate with internal groups, such as Cell Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Clinical, as well as external groups from academia and CROs. Communicate data to project reps and, as needed, scientific teams, senior management, and the external community through scientific journals and conferences. Minimum Qualifications:
BS or MS with 8+ years of relevant metabolomics experience in metabolism, DMPK, bioanalysis, natural products, or biomarker research. Proven track record of using mass spectrometry to solve complex biological problems in a discovery research environment, including publications that demonstrate analytics supporting biology or clinical research. High level of comfort with MS hardware and related software for independence in the lab and analysis. Experience with metabolomics data workflows and multivariate statistics or isotope labeling studies is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are desired, coupled with a collaborative approach to research.
